After an early breakfast you will fly on your schedule flight to Queen Elizabeth National Park - Uganda’s most visited national park. on arrival you will be met and assisted to transfer with game drive enroute to Ishasha wilderness Camp. The terrain of volcanic craters, grassy plains and tropical forest makes for a varied landscape and unique biome. Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for predators and big game while you’re meandering through safari paradise. En route to Ishasha Wilderness Camp you enjoy a cruise on the Kazinga channel which connects Lake George and Lake Edward. Spot bloats of hippo, herds of elephant, and other wildlife adorning the banks of the channel. The highlight of visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park is the opportunity to spot the rare black-maned tree-climbing lions in the Rukungiri District, the area around Ishasha.
Ishasha Wilderness Camp is situated within the Southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park on the Ntungwe river, an idyllic retreat for people who truly enjoy the wild. This exclusive camp blends the magic of a wilderness tented camp with superb service in this unspoilt and remote region of the National Park. The Ishasha savannahs are famous for its population of tree climbing lions that can sometimes be spotted resting in the branches of the large fig trees. Being within the park the wildlife is free to also pass through the camp and elephants can be seen bathing in the river, buffalo enjoy grazing and resident troops of Black-and-White Colobus and vervet monkeys are frequently viewed.
Touch down in Kibale National Park, and you will immediately sense the freshness of the dew, the fragrances of endemic flowers, and the musty scents left behind by monkey troops in the canopy. The sounds are also alien, from the distant echoed hoot of red colobus monkeys to the exotic chirping of endemic birds. In the distance, you may hear the sound of one of the park’s elephants plowing a path into the trees, and all around as you check into Turaco Treetops Lodge, there will be evidence of four-legged visitors, like the bushbuck and the warthogs. Gaze up, and a single scene might capture the iconic and the unique as an olive long-tailed cuckoo will fly above a small buffalo herd.
Ugandan red colobus monkeys seem to mark the trail as you set off in search of chimpanzees as their tales drape down majestically and curl with an enduring grace. L’Hoest’s monkeys and Ugandan mangabeys are the other regulars on your journey, more examples of species from the depths of the Central African rainforest. Keep walking, and the trail will narrow further as your guide hacks it clear of tangled roots. Somewhat remarkably, you will be able to sense when the chimpanzees are close. Perhaps it will be the subtle change in smell or the unexplainable shift in the atmosphere. Take a few more steps, and you will hear their calls. Keep walking, and you will stop before one chimpanzee, an old female foraging peacefully in the canopy. Creep a little closer, and more of the troop will come into view with a dozen chimps scattered across the trees.
Turaco Treetops Lodge, a luxury lodge constructed in the lush rainforest neighbouring Uganda’s Kibale Forest National Park. Boasting unmatched and unobstructed views of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and resident primates, including Bush Babies and the Black and White Colobus Monkeys, there is not better place to experience nature.
