11 Days Discovery Tour: Overview

From the plains of the Mara to the snow-touched summit of Africa's second highest mountain, Kenya is a destination of epic panoramas and exquisite details. By exploring on foot, your vantage point will ensure that you appreciate the exquisite beauty of the landscape. From the roaming herds to the lunar escarpments, the big cats to the monkey-filled slopes, this 11-day safari will offer an exclusive opportunity to see it all along with a four-day summit of Mount Kenya followed by a four-day Mara safari with Maasai warrior guides.

 

Day 1: Arrival Nairobi | Transfer Hemingways Nairobi

You will be greeted at Nairobi International and transferred to Hemingways Nairobi, a boutique lodge in the peaceful suburb of Karen. The beautiful Hemingways Nairobi is situated a mere 40 minutes from Nairobi’s international airport, where it is spread across flourishing grounds in the exclusive suburb of Karen. This elegant boutique hotel is enchanting in its decor and flooded with natural light. Its well-appointed, ensuite rooms each have a private balcony overlooking the iconic silhouette of the Ngong Hills.

Guests are treated to the services of a discreet, highly trained butler whose role is to ensure a hassle-free stay. Tuck into delicious European-inspired fare at the Brasserie and enjoy refreshing beverages at the convivial bar. Guests seeking to unwind can make use of the first-class spa facilities or simply enjoy the sense of blissful seclusion, luxury on the edge of wilderness.

Dependent on your arrival time, there are a handful of unique destinations to visit in Karen, including Karen Blixon's House to meet the rare Rothschild giraffe at Giraffe Manor, and the rehabilitated pachyderms at the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Days 2, 3, 4

Loisaba Conservancy - Loisaba Tented Camp

Days 2, 3, 4 Itinerary

After early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to Wilson airport for your maiden flight to Loisaba Conservancy. Upon landing you will be assisted and transfer to Loiaba Tented Camp. Loisaba is a 58,000 acre wildlife conservancy located in Laikipia, Northern Kenya. With abundant wildlife, exquisite accommodation and adventurous activities, Loisaba will revive your mind, rejuvenate your body and revitalize your soul. The conservancy is a haven for more than 260 bird and 50 mammal species. Alongside the more common wildlife, Loisaba provides critical habitat and a migration corridor 800 elephants, large herds of buffalo, dozens of the endangered Grevy’s zebra, towers of endangered reticulated giraffes and the beautiful greater kudu. Our cat population is thriving, with over three lion prides on Loisaba at one time and numerous leopards and cheetahs. To top it off the African wild dog, thought for many years to be extinct in the region, are once again being sighted regularly and often denning on Loisaba.

Perched on the edge of an escarpment, Loisaba Tented Camp is designed to take advantage of unhindered views across the Laikipia Plateau’s breath-taking landscape, all the way to the peaks of Mount Kenya. The theme of the camp is one of African elegance and style, enhanced by an expansive panorama, which can be enjoyed from the large open dining area, the relaxing sitting area and bar, the tranquil wooden deck, and one of Africa’s most picturesque infinity pools.

The nine spacious and airy tents are custom-designed with large floor-to-ceiling doors and windows, polished wood floors, chic African furnishings and wide verandas from which to enjoy the endless views. While the luxurious ensuite bathrooms provide flush toilets, double-basin vanities and solar-heated hot water, which cascades from rainfall showers to deliver a revitalising cleanse after an adventurous day. Guests are offered a myriad of exciting activities including day and night game drives, horse riding, camel-trekking, guided bush walks, fishing, mountain biking and cultural visits to a Samburu village; ensuring that every moment at Loisaba Tented Camp is unforgettable.

 

Days 5, 6

Kalama Conservancy - Saruni Samburu

After breakfast, you will transfer to the "Wild North" Kalama Conservancy. On arrival you will be assisted and check into Saruni Samburu. Saruni Samburu is a deluxe, design lodge located in Kenya’s wild north. It is the only lodge in Kalama Conservancy, a community-owned wildlife reserve that borders Samburu National Reserve, with 200,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness to explore and enjoy exclusively. Perched on a spectacular viewpoint, its 6 villas are open and spacious, heralding spectacular views over Kenya’s Northern Frontier District and Mount Kenya in the distance. Samburu is a great wildlife destination known of its rare species, its population of predators and the large herds of elephants. The Ewaso Nyiro river offers a lifeline to the wildlife of this arid region of Kenya. Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy protects an area of 16,000 hectares within the 49,800 ha of Gir Gir Group Ranch in the Waso Ward of Samburu East Sub County. The Conservancy also borders the Samburu National Reserve to the south and Westgate Conservancy to the west.

 

Days 7, 8, 9, 10

Maasai Mara Game Lodge - Saruni Mara

After breakfast, transfer to the local airstrip and your plane swoops off into the Maasai Mara, on arrival you will be met and assisted to check in at the luxurious Saruni Mara. Saruni Mara is a small, luxury lodge in the Masai Mara, with 5 cottages, 1 family villa and 1 private villa. It is located in a secluded valley in one of the most exciting wildernesses in Africa – the Mara North Conservancy. This is an exclusive community-owned wildlife conservancy bordering the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve. The access to the conservancy is reserved to its selected members, which guarantees privacy and exclusivity. The lodge is on a hill overlooking the Mara plains, surrounded by an indigenous forest where wildlife abounds. Masai Mara National Reserve is a land of breathtaking vistas, abundant wildlife and endless plains. The quintessential Masai Mara safari delivers many attractions, as the reserve is home to an excellent year-round concentration of game, including the more than two million wildebeest, zebras and other antelopes that make up the famous Great Migration. The reserve is a photographer’s and naturalist’s paradise, with abundant elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion and cheetah alongside the migratory wildebeest and zebra. Leopards are frequently encountered, endangered black rhino hide in the dense thickets and large rafts of hippo and enormous crocodiles are found in the Mara River. The park is also home to over 450 bird species.

 

 

Day 11 | Departure, End of Expedition

The airstrip in Mara Naboisho makes for an easy departure from Africa and a unique airport transfer. Weave along the dusty trails to the airstrip, passing elephant and lions before boarding your light aircraft bound for Nairobi Wilson Airport. From here, you will be transferred to Nairobi International Airport and your homebound departure.
